Fixin' The Deck Part 14

The last post in this series ended with the completion of the stairs at the front of the deck, and the installation of fascia board at the sides of the stairs. The area above the garage door is also ready for fascia boards....which just leaves the fence side of the deck and the rear. These areas were a little bit different. The rear has some oddly shaped rafter tails to work around and lots of gaps, and there were a number of similar gaps at the fence side:

I worked on the rear-facing side first - the rafter tails were padded out with small pieces of wood, and sections of 2" x 4" PT were installed between each rafter tail.

Rafter tails were also extended and/or trimmed as necessary:

It seemed easier to box in the areas between rafter tails at the fence side:

Once installation was complete, everything was given a coat of primer, and any remaining large gaps were filled with expandable foam.

The next day all the gaps were filled with big stretch and....

...then painted house-color gray:

With all of that done, I'm ready to install the fascia boards, which is the last step before gutters. I began above the garage. These sections of the fascia were salvaged from the original deck and painted with primer in the garage prior to installation.

There was a small gap between the facia board and the stucco, which I filled with expandable foam. The blue tape makes it much easier to get rid of the excess foam later:

Which looks like this:

Or like this after a bead of caulk has been added:

Continued adding fascia at the fence side and rear. These sections were replaced with pre-primed material. I need to get the new fascia boards painted, and then I can install the gutters.

To be continued.!
