Back Yard Cleanup

Our house sits on an unusual triangular-shaped lot which means we have three yards: the front, the right side and the area behind the house. The first three photos below show what the front yard looks like right now. This area has been the scene of a lot of work over the last few years.

Further left; this area has been planted very recently

The yard at the right side is the section that we worked on first. We finished up putting a fence around this area to keep the deer out:

The area behind the house has been sadly neglected for the majority of the time we've lived here. Every so often we've had a tidy up, but we've never done any proper work on this area other than knocking up a couple of leaf pens. For the last couple of years, it has been left to run wild:

Looking right from the patio behind the house - there is a well in there somewhere, and behind that, a mature maple tree:

Looking left:

This is after taking a lopper to all of the big stuff on both sides of the yard:

This generated a huge pile of debris:

I got the weed whacker out next and managed to expose the well. The octagonal concrete cover is broken into two (2) pieces.

This is way later after running the weed whacker over the whole yard and raking up the debris, times two:

I cleaned up the wood chopping area too. This space is located at the rear of the lot which is also the apex of the triangle.

Looking back towards the house:

Filled both leaf pens:

Also generated one bin and twenty (20) paper sacks of garden waste:

Some of the items I unearthed during the process:

Sunset at the end of the cleanup:

The back yard is the next target for landscaping, and we have tentative plans to build a sauna in what is now the wood chopping area. We are also investigating whether we can irrigate the yard with water from the well.
